This is a good question. Generally the few minutes after the heart stops beating are the critical time for restarting the heart. The longer the time is the less chance there is of surviving.

Of course there are also some cases where peoples hearts have been restarted several hours after they have stopped beating, but this is rare. I recently had the pleasure of meeting someone who was trapped under a frozen lake for 2 hours during which time their heart had stopped. Doctors managed to restart their heart and they survived most likely because of the very cold temperature slowing down all the body’s process.

Once a person has been MEDICALLY certified as “DEAD” (please underline MEDICALLY), life can not be brought back.
