Histology has been much the same for over a hundred years – things have become automated but the stains and theories are fairly standard.
However- a new branch of cellular pathology is getting very exciting called molecular diagnostics- this is looking for diseases at the genetic level – further subtyping cancers even more and the more we can sub type cancers the more we can develop targeted therapies to treat them so fingers crossed in 10 years we can have better treatments and preventative measures towards cancer.

The way people research cancer is constantly changing as it involves lots of different ways of researching things. As @Adelle says molecular diagnostics will be really important. We know that cancers are different from person to person. If one gene is important for one persons cancer but not another, then the first person would respond well to a drug against that gene but the second would not. We call this “personalised medicine” and it is becoming really important in treating diseases such as lung cancer.
