We often base our experiments on what other people have done in the past, but with a twist that involves our organ, gene or chemical. So we start by trying to repeat what others have done, then add in our bit. This way we can make sure the experiment is working. The bit that we have added is the new and exciting thing, and nobody has done before. Sometimes we need to make up an experiment completely from scratch, in this case it is possible that nobody in the world has done the same as you!

One of the things I love about my job is that I get to do things that nobody has ever done before and try to find out things that nobody knows the answer to. No experiment is really the same as we are always trying to find out new things.

What your looking at changes but normally you have a standard procedure you can follow. So no the experiments have not been done before.
