      There were lots of chemists working on how to catagorise the elements during the 18th-19th Century. But the men most famous for their versions of the periodic table were Dmitri Mendeleev and Julius Lothar Meyer. Much later in the 1920s a man called Horace Groves Deming came up with the format that we know and use today.
