Yes! There are lots of areas of science where computing is very important.

As researchers we generate a lot of information about our experiments. For example the human genome project produced data on every single letter in our DNA, this needed to be stored somewhere and analysed using computers. This is called “bioinformatics” and the special scientists who work on this are both good with computers and science as well!

Also, computing is used to draw models of things such as proteins and drugs. These kind of models can be used to invent new drugs that are likely to treat diseases such as cancer without even making the drug in the lab first.

It can. There is a whole field known as computer science when you model different types of experiments, systems. I know computer scientists are very popular in neuroscience to model different aspects of the nervous system. Even I do a little computer science, for analysing my data and modelling my experiments. GCSE computing can help, at the least it teachs you to use data analysis functions on the computer, and it will help you when looking at publishing data, as you tend to have to send papers off electronically.
