      This is a great question!

Last year I had a spontaneous lung collapse. This is where an unknown reason causes air to escape into the space around one of the lungs. This puts pressure on the lung preventing it from inflating. This is very painful and makes the other lung work much harder. It also puts strain on your heart to move the less oxygenated blood around your body quicker. The doctors fixed the collapsed lung by sucking the air out of the lung cavity to allow the lung to re-inflate.

People with lung cancer can have all or a large part of their lung removed to try and get rid of the cancer.

You can still live with one lung, but you would probably need a supply of oxygen and there would be lots of things you couldn’t do anymore like playing sport.

YES WE CAN LIVE WITH ONE LUNG……

People definitely can survive even if an entire lung is removed.

When one lung is removed, the remaining lung inflates to take up some of the extra space.

Living with one lung doesn’t affect our usual day-to-day activities in our life….. or life expectancy, though a person with one lung wouldn’t be able to exercise as strenuously as a healthy person with two lungs,

yes! luckily as we are quite symetrical and grow two of lots of organs we tend to have spares. the one organ will grow and increase its ability to aid in the loss of the other.
