      As the sun is setting, it is moving below the horizon in the distance. At this point it is much further away from you than during the day so the rays of the sun have to travel a greater distance. The further the light has to travel the more particles in the air, like gases and dust it can come in contact with. This scatters the light and makes it seem more orange/red
