The colour of our eyes is due to coloured pigments in them. For example, a pigment called ‘Melanin’ gives eyes a brown colour. It is our genes that controls how much of these pigments is produced and therefore what colour our eyes are.

Yes, we get some DNA from our mother and some from our father. Our DNA is a mixture of the two.
